Spring into spring - in a dress!

Spring is around the corner - so break out your dresses! I know your legs have been hiding all fall and winter behind opaque tights. And they very well may be a ghostly shade of pale -- but try to forget it. Slather on the self tanner and let's go dress shopping.

I love dresses -- I just don't wear them often enough. I used to live in skirts and dresses before you could easily find long inseams in jeans and pants. It was either dresses and skirts or floods for this gal.

Dresses are actually very easy to wear and often very comfortable. Layer a dress with a cardigan, denim jacket or leather jacket and you need not worry about a chill. Dress up with heels, down with flats, in between with wedges.

But always always, did I say always? Avoid a tight all over look. Unless you are 17 and can make it look cute, or have an extremely sassy affair to attend, a bandage dress is not a safe or wise choice.

While browsing for spring dresses I had a colorful print in mind. But, I am always a sucker for color blocking, especially with a cool color combo like charcoal and coral.  Throw in the pleats and I was sold.  A nude or beige shoe is a given for spring and I LOVE this textile T-strap sandal from Aldo.  Perfect! Grab a gold necklace, coral handbag, and mother of pearl bracelet (a super sale by the way) and you are ready to turn some heads.

New Obsessions: Pelle Moda Shoes and Judith Jack Necklaces

So, today is my husband's birthday - Happy Birthday Hun!  So, this week I had to do some shopping...for him.  He wanted a watch -- large, white, with a white band.  I found the largest, whitest watch out there and I think he really liked it. Phew!

But, how can I venture into a shopping center with blinders on, I could not!  My eyes darted side to side as I tried to head straight to the watch case.  What did I see on a mannequin while heading to my destination -- some gorgeous patent T-strap Pelle Moda heels.  They were gorgeous!  I could not find the exact pair online but as I browsed I found a slew of gorgeous shoes from Pelle Moda.  They are not cheap but not Manolo priced either.  Check out this gorgeous collection.

Then while waiting for gift wrap I browsed the jewelry section to find a beautiful collection of Judith Jack necklaces/pendants.  I did cave and buy one for myself.  Happy Birthday Honey -- to me?

Stylish on a Budget - It can be done! (Reader Request)

I was recently contacted by Stylish Dish reader Lisa from St. Louis, Missouri to help her on her "quest to be stylish" for an upcoming trip to the wineries. (And, I am happy to help anyone consume wine stylishly -- one of my favorite pastimes.)

The weather in St Louis during springtime weather is iffy so it could be warm or could be chilly.  Lisa requested something casual (jeans are great!) but still classic and fashionable.  The biggest challenge: she hopes to keep the entire look under $100.  That guidelines wasn't set in stone so I got close with the look below.

Grand Total for all 4 pieces (drum roll please...)

$123.34

That is pretty good since it includes shoes and designer William Rast jeans marked down from $160 to $41 and change! These jeans have a wide leg --which I am loving right now with flats or heels. I selected a light knit dolman short sleeve sweater which fits like a dream (I tried it on.)  And a light knit is perfect is the weather could go from warm to chilly.  The layered necklace is a steal at just over $5.  Seriously?

In our e-mail exchanges Lisa mentioned she loved Tory Burch Reva Flats but those were out of her price range.  So, I MUST plug the Valerie Tahari flats that I have featured here before.  Now they make them in Jute with a gold medallion (so cute!).  I have these, my aunts now has these, and my sister has 2 pairs.  They are very comfy and I receive compliments on them every time I wear them.  I think I may have to pick up the jute pair below for Spring.  You can too for $89. Below are some low priced (under $50) alternatives to swap in and out of the look above. Options are always nice...

Red Carpet Dish - Academy Awards 2011

If you are like me, you watch the Academy Awards because you really like movies and you LOVE fashion. Not many of us real people have an occasion to throw on a floor length sparkly number and cruise down a red carpet. So, we live vicariously through the actors, actresses, cinematographers, directors, and other “industry” people who get to attend these events.

And, if you are like my family, we all throw in our two cents about who looks fabulous and who looks fugulous. (Although, in Hollywood, what doesn’t look good could quite possibly be spectacular at the local grocery store so take the critics with a grain of salt.)

My top 5 are below (in no particular order)

Michelle Williams looks so beautiful and classic here. She reminds me of Mia Faorrow in Rosemary’s baby, in a good way. It reminded me of the gorgeous yellow Vera Wang she wore a few years back which I had to include because it remains one of my all time favorites.

Hats off to you Sandra Bullock! You look great – take that Jesse and Kat. I do, however, wish you put on makeup besides lipstick. Looking a little peekid to me

What can we say about Jennifer Hudson? She looks amazing! That color is gorgeous on her, I am surely too pale for that color.

Mila Kunis shines again! When she presented I wasn’t too crazy about the little lace panels that peek out at the top but in full length view this dress is divine.

When choosing my favorite sparkly number I went back and forth between Halle Berry and Mandy Moore. Halle is just too beautiful, it is unfair --and I loved Tangled, so Mandy you take the prize in my book.

The host Anne Hathaway wore something like 8 different dresses (and hair styles!) My two favorites were the ones below. (Surprise! I loved the one shoulder – I am obsessed with one shoulder tops and dresses.)

My cousin who watched with me (we have a family party) was not as interested in Anne’s dresses as her sparkly shoes that she wore with the Lanvin tuxedo. She was drooling over them and oohing and ahhhing. I asked her where one would possibly wear them and she promptly repied New Years Eve and Vegas Baby! There you have it!

After much googling, I finally found a photo of the much fawned over shoes. They are, apparently, Brian Atwood custom black satin “Fiona” pumps with 8,000 hand-applied Swarovski Crystals. Wow.

Here are some less expensive sparkly pair for NYE or Vegas Baby!

Who were your favorites on Oscar night? Which dress did you like the best on Anne Hathaway?
