Trends and Updates. Fashion moves…things are in, then out, then back in again. Obviously, the most recent posts contain the most recent fashions…and, the likelihood that those items are still available from retailers is greater. I will check links often to ensure things are not sold out. But. if you are looking at a post that is many weeks or months old…there are no guarantees. I will, however, try to post updated looks for popular occasions as often as possible.
The Dish on Climate. I live in Southern California. I have my entire life. Frigid temps to Californians mean high 40s, low 50s. We are wimps. The only time I ever bought a true winter coat is when I visited London in 9th grade. So, while I fantasize about stylish coats, scarves, and hats — I have never really had to put them to use. I will try to accommodate as many climates as possible but I do not claim to be anything other than a California girl. Ah California…where you can wear flip flops year round and jeans are appropriate for even a dressy occasion.
Price. I try to style looks with a mix of bargain pieces and more pricey items. However, pricey to me is probably some people’s bargain. I try to keep individual items under $200 (more for major pieces like dresses, leather handbags, and outerwear.) When possible, I will try to provide some alternatives for specific items in a look to help cover a larger range of tastes and budgets.
Fit. There are obviously no dressing rooms while Internet shopping. And, although I am thankful that I do not have to see my backside illuminated with fluorescent lighting, there is no replacement for trying things on. The good news is that e-tailers have good return policies if you are unhappy with any purchase. Also, I try to select items from quality brands that I am familiar with. I know there are a lot of great deals from budget retailers but often those items need a dressing room more than others– so I won’t likely include many of these budget items (think Forever 21, Old Navy, Target) in my looks unless they are accessories or alternative items.
The Dollar Dish. This site is run and paid for by me. I do receive small commissions for clicks as an affiliate of ShopStyle and for the ads that run on the site (emphasis on small). Some retailers I may feature offer a small commission only if someone buys something from their stor. This does not, however, influence what items I choose or the brands I highlight. I choose items because I like them. Period. I am not influenced by any brand, shop, or manufacturer. In fact, some items I feature pay no click commission at all, I just like ‘em.
