Summer Night On the Town

I was shopping the other day for a swimsuit (!) when my trusty shopping partner (my sister) and I decided to do just what you should do while swimsuit shopping....have dinner.  While we waited for our table we browsed some of the stores near the restaurant and saw this adorable Romper in the window of The Limited.  One shoulder (my fave), a romper (her fave), and a beautiful deep green (another fave of mine) so we knew someone had to try that puppy on.  That person was me.

This little romper is great!  Light, breezy, shorts not too short, dressy enough for evening and heels.  It definitely needs a wide belt and tried it on with one similar to the one below.  Through on some great beige strappy heels and a cute purse and you are on your way for a hot summer night. Click an individual item in the look below.

Did I buy it? Sadly, I did not.  Why you may ask?  Because it is a little dressy and does not transition well for day wear.  As a mother of a two little ones I don't have that many nights on the town but seem to have enough things to wear to them.

I am searching now for casual wear and would have loved the same romper in a comfy jersey.  I searched and fond the ones below.  I love the Riller and Fount one, just hoping to find the look for under $70 if possible.

The Great Hair Dilemma

Apparently, smooth, straight and silky is the way to be. Gone are the 90s where we could tease and poof our hair and be the envy of the town. I fit in so well then. Just give me a teasing comb and a bottle of hairspray (maybe even a crimper), and I was good to go. Now it's Keratins, Brazilian Blowouts, and straightening irons.

That's OK. We will survive. Just like many survived the super thin eyebrows era. Even if it meant 7 years brow rehab and Rogaine on a q-tip.

I just have curly hair. In college my sister nicknamed me Kenny G and not without reason. Now age, kids, hormones, and who knows what else changed my hair. Now I am wavy with a little frizzy for good measure. I Brazilian blowout-ed a few times and I can understand the hoopla. Hair changing for sure and probably life changing for those who spend hours under the blow dryer just to get sweaty before your night out. I liked it but the first 3 weeks were just too severe for me. I missed my waves. And, I always just curled my straight hair anyway. I just want frizz-free locks not straight ones.

So, now I am skipping the Brazilian Blowouts and just blowing out then curling. A two step process now, yes. But the result is optimal. The blowout part is just tough. Now, however, there are many products to help straighten for your at home blowout. I have tried quite a few. The Brazilian Blowout products, L'Oreal Eversleek, and now Matrix Sleek Look. Matrix Sleek Look is a winner by a landslide. By sister turned me on to these products and they are A.mazing. My hair was 10 times easier to blowout after one use AND it is half the price of the Brazilian Blowout products. You can get them at a beauty supply or online by clicking below. Get them. Now. You won't regret it.

I have the Shampoo, conditioner, and serum (steps 1, 2, and 4). My Sis uses conditioner only but her hair is straighter by nature.

TIP: They are much cheper t a beauty supply than the price listed below.  I got them for $8.99 a bottle on sale.

Maxi Skirtin

I think we are all familiar with the maxi dress, it's been around a couple of seasons.  So, the maxi skirt (not to be confused with a prairie skirt) should not be foreign territory.

Maxi skirts became top of mind for me when I saw this pic in the Urban Outfitters catalog.  I love this look!  Maybe its the stripes (which you know I am into right now), or the long and sleek silhouette, or the fact that is summery, boho, casual, feminine, and a bit classic all at once.

I L-O-V-E love this skirt.  It is long and a-line without being full or frumpy.  I think the model looks great with the short cami but I don't think that is a reality for real women.  I would pair it with a simple fitted tee (V, boat neck, or off the shoulder).  The key is fitted though -- you need that to offset the skirts length.

Below are a collection of skirts (including the Urban Outfitters one above) and tops that fit the bill for this look.

Feeling Flowy

The weather is a changing around these parts and the heat has arrived...at least for today. When it is hot I just want to be comfortable and that usually means light and flowy.

I saw this perfect maxi dress from J Crew a few weeks ago and it is begging me for a purchase. And, lately I have been into navy...although it comes in other colors like heather and olive.

Turquoise accessories are great for Spring/Summer and this pendant is delicate while still statement making.  I must have this. Throw on some bronze flat sandals and a slouchy brown hobo bag and voila -- cool comfort. Makes me want to sip a mai tai under a palapa...is someone looking forward to summer vacations?

I know that $98 is a little steep for a casual maxi dress (myself included) so I found this cheap option ($13.40!) from Forever 21. I can't vouch for quality but at that price you can wear it once then wash the car with it.
